Gabriela Quinceanera - April 19, 2008

April 30th, 2008

quince.jpg

We did a Quinceanera a couple of weeks ago. We don’t do these often (as we primarily focus on weddings) but when we do get them it’s a lot of fun. It gives us a chance to try different things and the day is not as hectic. You’re not dealing with a huge bridal party.

For those of you not familiar with a Quinceanera:

“The Quince años, or la fiesta Quinceañera, is a rite of passage for fifteen-year-old Latina girls. It is a community and family celebration full of tradition and meaning when a young girl is symbolically escorted into womanhood by her family and the event is witnessed by her community. The word itself comes from the Spanish quince, “fifteen,” and años, “years.”

“The origins of the Quinceañera are often attributed to the ancient customs of the Aztecs, but the ceremony and meaning behind it are similar to other ancient cultural initiation rites that occurred throughout the world. Fifteen was the age when many young women left their family home to become wives and then mothers, and almost as though passing through an invisible door, a Latina enters her Quinceañera as a child but emerges as a young woman with new responsibilities. Those who know and love her will see and treat her differently from that day forward.”

It’s an amazing feeling to document something that goes back thousands of years!

Here is a short video with highlights of the day and some pictures. For the song we chose “El Privilegio de Amar” by Mijares. Beautiful song with very touching lyrics. The message is great for a young adult growing up and heading out into the world. For those of you that read spanish you can read the lyrics to the song by clicking here: “El Privilegio de Amar.” If you can’t read spanish, well, like they say - sometimes music is universal so you can listen with your heart to get the message : )

Enjoy!

BTW - If want to learn more about quinceanera traditions I highly recommend a documentary a friend of mine did called “La Quinceanera.” Very touching. Very well made. Check it out.

Rosalia & William - The Castaway Restaurant Burbank - April 12, 2008

April 14th, 2008

rosalia1.jpg

We had a wonderful wedding on Saturday. We want to thank Rosalia and William for picking us to capture their video memories on their special day. Great couple. We were referred to them by another couple whom we also did their video around 3 years ago (thanks Chrissy & Joel - it was great seeing you guys again. You both looked great! Veronica thanks you for the margaritas, even though she was supposed to be working :)

We also had the opportunity to work with some old friends who are truly pros and made the day so much more enjoyable:

Photography was covered by Sir Harrison Photography. Rosie and Claudia - two lovely ladies who were a lot of fun to work with. Veronica and I had a blast! Veronica will surely be calling you guys!

MC services were provided by Elegance Elegancia. Albert, I mean it when I say you are the best MC I have ever seen : ) You make the night flow smooooooth!

Not to mention the great location - The Castaway Restaurant in Burbank - high on top of the mountains overlooking North Hollywood, Burbank and Glendale. It was a little hot but a clear, beautiful day.

Lastly, we had a surprise for the new married couple. We put together an SDE (Same Day Edit) - or how we like to refer to it as a “Wedding Day Recap.” This is a basically a 3 - 5 min video of the days events that is shown THAT night during the reception. It’s a lot of work. Timing and coordination is essential. I was very happy with the results. I chose “With You” by Chris Brown. Great song with great lyrics which I felt fit nicely with the emotions of the day and the footage. Showing this video on a 10 foot screen with 200 plus guests watching is beyond words. Very exciting!

Enjoy!

Do your own wedding make-up!

March 28th, 2008

Brides, if you want to look like a star on your wedding day read on!

Everyone knows that on that special day the bride is the star, therefore, looking your best is top priority on your list. You have taken your time to find the perfect gown. The shoes may have been quite a task to match and lets not talk about the hair piece. Hopefully by the wedding day you’ll still have hair left for it… not to mention the stressful task of looking for videographer and photographer.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that almost everything you need to look like a princess is in your hands. You choose, you decide and you buy.. your perfectly happy, right! But most brides don’t think about one of the most important things until the end of the journey and just before “The Day” and that is MAKE UP!!!!

Girlfriends, I have done enough weddings throughout Southern California to know that unless you trust your make up artist 100%, attend at least 2 test makeup sessions and are willing to spend $$$$ you should be in control, after all who knows you better than you know yourself.

If you want to take no chances and a stress free wedding day take my advise and visit www.kristaembry.com for more information on how to have your make up done by you on your wedding day.

Trust me, there is nothing more sad than coming out angry on your wedding photos or video. Remember, this is a once in a lifetime event and the one thing you’ll have as memories of that day are your video and photos. The last thing you want is to come out with teary eyes or what’s even worse to choose not to have pictures or video of those moments because you’re upset.

Professional Make Up Artist Krista Embry teaches you how to do it yourself. Also if you would like to have a free makeup session for you, your mom and brides maids contact Godina Videography & Photography and we will provide you with more information.

New Wedding Testimonial!

March 12th, 2008

The day we received the DVDs of our wedding we couldn’t help but be amazed at how detailed and beautifully the whole day was captured. It is breathtaking and it was like reliving the event all over again.

We’ve gotten so many compliments just on the cover of the DVDs. Our wedding celebration has been something that we can share with anyone at anytime because of Godina. We are blessed to have such memories to keep and pass on to our children. We recommend you guys to everyone for any event because of what we’ve received.

Words can’t express how much we love and cherish our wedding day, but having our pictures and DVD’s, we’ll never forget what that day encompassed, not just for us, but for everyone involved. Because of Godina we will always have these precious memories to share with our family and friends.

Thank You So Much,
Kinyse & Steven

Thanks guys!

Funny Wedding Video

March 1st, 2008

Here is the funniest video I’ve seen in a long time.

Here’s the translation:

1. Ok, now with the bride’s sister.
2. Cool. Now with those who are wearing a suit for the first time in their life… Cute!
3. Now all the drunken uncles. All the drunk uncles please.
4. Those who weren’t invited, although they made it here.
5. Everyone who slept with the bride please.
6. Let me do a little fix right here…
7. Eh, now everybody who slept with the groom!

25 Things Every Bride Should Do To Stay Healthy Before the Big Day

February 27th, 2008

bride

I ran across this article today which I thought was great and very helpful to the future bride.

Among my favorite points:

# 1. Eat well
# 4. Eat some chocolate
# 12. Try yoga
# 22. Drink water

I think the last point is the most important one - # 25 have fun!

Too many times I have seen the Bride or Groom upset over things they had absolutely no control over. Maybe someone was late, the flowers were not perfect, someone had a little too much to drink OR you find out that Uncle George invited himself to the wedding - and he brought a guest!

Whatever the situation, realize that this is your special day and there will be no other like it. At the end of the day you will have your pictures and video to re-live all the events of the day.

to read the entire list. Remember, have fun!!

We offer a combo package that offers video and photography. Please contact us for further information.

I got this yesterday unexpectedly. Very nice. Thanks Desiree!

“When planning our wedding, which was back in October 2005, my husband & I knew that having a videographer was a must. We researched other companies but Godina Video was the one that stood out above all the rest! They did an outstanding job and when we received our video and watched it for the first time it was like living that moment all over again and actually being able to take it all in.

“Fast forward over two years later I unfortunately came to have a problem with a certain photographer that I used for my wedding (Godina video had not started photography yet I believe) would you believe that I haven’t received any pictures yet!

“I was able to call Veronica & Robert and they were beyond understanding and actually took the time to dig up in their archives for photos that they had taken for our video cover and are able to make an album for us to have some pictures from our most special day!

“I appreciate all the effort so much that my sister-in-law is now going to use them for her upcoming wedding in 2009! I would recommend Godina Video for not only video but for pictures as well!!

“Thank you so much Robert & Veronica for all your hard work. It really means so much to Brian & I. I can’t begin to tell you!”

Wedding Photos to Remember

January 22nd, 2008

I ran across these photos this morning. I thought they were hilarious and wanted to share them with you. It goes to show that you can’t really pose these shots.

Bottom line is enjoy your day, relax, have fun and most importantly be yourself!
