Why video?
I framed the title of this post as a question but to be honest, it’s not a question that we often get asked. We don’t get phones calls from clients asking, “Why should I get a wedding video?” If we never get the call, then of course the client is not interested in video and it is very rare when we have to convince the client about getting a video. If they inquire, then obviously they are interested.
So I guess this post are for those that ARE considering video but have not seriously inquired about it. So I pose my question again, “Why video?”
I know I can go into a whole speech about “preserving your memories” and “you only get married once” etc, etc. I’m sure you have all heard that before. No, I wont go there.
What I will mention is something I heard at a video seminar a couple of years ago that still sticks in my mind.
The person speaking posed the following question:

“If I told you that I had a video (DVD) of the wedding of your parents or grandparents, how much would you pay for it? The video is high quality along with the audio.
“The video is such professionally done that all of the wedding details are covered. After watching it you will feel like you were there.”
We then had to write down the dollar amount. Whatever dollar figure you came up with was the value you place on having such a video. Some people said “$200″ and other people went up as high as “$10,000.” Personally, just to see the video of my parent’s wedding I would mortgage my house if I had to but that’s me and I realize that not everybody places the same value on a video as I might.
So why get video if maybe you will just watch it once and put it back on the shelf? My direct answer is, do it for your kids. Yes, do it for the kids you have now or plan to have in the future. I can’t begin to explain the excitement I would feel if I had a chance to see the wedding ceremony of my parents. Do it for them and then they will share with their kids when they are older.
Do it for your kids.
