Wedding DVD Covers
When considering a videographer for your wedding and reception I think it’s important that you consider the cover art for your DVD. From the tips and advice that you see on the internet about “choosing a videographer” it’s rare that you get the advice to ask this question - “What do your DVD covers look like?” They always advice you to ask about their experience, the equipment they use, what type of editing do they do, etc, etc but rarely do they ask you to examine their DVD art which, in my opinion, is as important as everything else.
All too often I do see the DVD art that my competitors do and right away one can see that the DVD art is usually second thought. I think it’s important to have a cover that is striking and not bland. If the bride has hired us to do their photography as well, then there is a big advantage here. The advantage is that I am able to choose from hundreds of photographs for the DVD cover.
Having a background in graphic design helps tremendously as well - such as in our case. After your initial editing is done we will take the time (hours) to choose the right photos to put onto your cover.
I have seen a lot of videographers use video “still” images to put onto their covers. What this means is that most video cameras have the ability to take a picture right onto the tape OR they will grab a still image from the video once they’ve downloaded it to their computer. The point is that grabbing the picture this way does not compare to the quality of using a picture from a professional digital camera.
So ask to see their DVD samples, not just the editing. While the editing may be great wouldn’t it be nice to have a nice cover to go with it?

You want your DVD to look so professional that it can sit on the shelf of your local Blockbuster : )
